Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Summary
For the seventh time since 1953, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is
completely redesigned, and it officially adopts “Stingray” as a part of
its name, perhaps to underline the magnitude of the changes Chevrolet
has made in order to make the C7 a globally viable sports car. The list of changes is a long one, and it includes a new aluminum
frame, a new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, a new 7-speed manual transmission, a
standard carbon fiber hood, and a new interior with advanced technology,
top-quality materials, and completely redesigned seats. Driving
dynamics are tailored using a standard Drive Mode Selector, and the new
‘Vette can be optioned with a Z51 Performance Package that upgrades the
car with serious hardware.
Model Lineup:
The new 2014 Corvette Stingray is available in coupe or convertible body styles and in 1LT, 2LT or 3LT trim. Highlights from the standard equipment list include power-adjustable
leather-wrapped seats, a power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, dual-zone
climate control, keyless passive entry with push-button starting, and a
premium audio system. A Chevrolet MyLink color touchscreen infotainment
system includes Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming capability,
as well as a reversing camera, dual USB ports, and an SD card slot. The 2LT model adds improvements to the sound system, a color heads-up
display, upgraded seats with heating and ventilation, and more. The 3LT
model equips the Corvette Stingray with premium leather and a
navigation system. The optional Z51 Package adds performance-tuned braking, suspension,
and transmission components, along with heavy-duty mechanical cooling
systems, a dry-sump oiling system, and an electronic limited-slip
differential. Larger forged aluminum wheels and aerodynamic enhancements
set the Corvette Stingray Z71 apart from other models.
Engines and Transmissions:
The 2014 Corvette Stingray is equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine
generating 455 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. In addition to
direct fuel injection, this V-8 is equipped with Active Fuel Management
technology that allows the engine to operate on four of its eight
cylinders under certain driving conditions in order to help conserve
fuel. A 7-speed manual gearbox is standard for the new Corvette, and it
features Active Rev Match technology. A 6-speed automatic transmission
with paddle shifters is optional.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
Stick with the manual gearbox for the best fuel economy. This version
is rated to get 21 mpg in combined driving. Select the automatic, and
the rating drops to 20 mpg.
Safety Ratings:
As this summary is written, the 2014 Corvette Stingray has not been
subjected to crash-testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
(IIHS).
Technology Highlights:
Every Corvette Stingray has LED running lights and taillights, as
well as a Drive Mode Selector offering Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and
Track driving modes. Track mode also grants access to the car’s Launch
Control system. A Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension is
optional, along with a performance exhaust system that bumps horsepower
to 460 and torque to 465.
