Mercedes-Benz C-Class Summary
2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Summary
Changes for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class:
Minor equipment changes accompany the C-Class into the 2014 model
year, in advance of a completely redesigned 2015 C-Class sedan. New 507
Edition variants of the C63 AMG models also debut this year, and they
make a ridiculous amount of power.
Model Lineup:
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered as a 2-door coupe and a
4-door sedan in C250, C300 (sedan only), C350, and performance-tuned C63
AMG model series. Additionally, the C250 and C300 sedans provide a
choice between Luxury and Sport trim levels, while the C350 sedan is
equipped only with Sport trim.
Engines and Transmissions:
The 2014 Mercedes C250 models are equipped with a turbocharged,
1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 201 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and
229 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 rpm and 4,300 rpm. A 7-speed
automatic transmission is standard equipment, delivering the power to
the rear wheels.
A 3.5-liter V-6 engine is installed in the C300 4Matic and the C350
models. In the C300 4Matic, it makes 248 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 251
lb.-ft. of torque from 3,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. In the C350, horsepower
measures 302 at 6,500 rpm and the engine’s peak 273 lb.-ft. of torque is
made from 3,500 rpm to 5,250 rpm. A 7-speed automatic transmission is
standard for both versions of the V-6 engine, along with an Eco
automatic stop/start system. The 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is
optional for the C350 coupe. The performance-tuned C63 AMG models have a 6.3-liter V-8 engine
generating 451 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 443 lb.-ft. of torque at
5,000 rpm, paired with a 7-speed AMG SpeedShift transmission and a big,
fat, long list of hardware upgrades designed to maximize velocity.
Incredibly, the new C63 AMG Edition 507 model is rated to produce 507
horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 450 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm, which is
good for a scream to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
All versions of the 2014 C-Class except for the C63 AMG are rated to
return between 22 mpg and 25 mpg in combined driving. The C63 AMG, on
the other hand, gets 15 mpg in combined driving.
Safety Ratings:
The 2014 Mercedes C-Class sedan receives a 5-star overall crash-test
rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
and earns the top rating of “Good” in all assessments conducted by the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) except for one. In the
small overlap frontal-impact test, the C-Class received a “Marginal”
rating from the IIHS.
Technology Highlights:
Mercedes offers numerous high-tech features for the 2014 C-Class.
Standard equipment includes a drowsy driver detection system called
Attention Assist, and the car is equipped with Mbrace 2 telematics with
an SOS button. Options include navigation, a premium sound system, a
10-gig music hard drive with Gracenote media database, Keyless Go, and
an Advanced Parking Guidance system. Additionally, the C-Class offers
active headlights with adaptive high-beams, passive and active versions
of blind-spot warning and lane departure warning, adaptive cruise
control, and more.
